Overview

ValensPara is a BDDK-licensed payment institution platform built and operated by Valensas. It enables merchants to accept payments through multiple banks' virtual POS systems while meeting all BDDK, TCMB, BTRANS and GIB regulatory obligations. In May 2025, 90% of the company was successfully transferred to the İnsha Venture Capital Investment Fund managed by Albaraka Portföy Yönetimi A.Ş., with Valensas continuing as its technology partner.

The Challenge

ValensPara had to be launched as a fully compliant payment institution in a highly regulated market while supporting real-world merchant traffic from day one. The technical and operational bar was set by BDDK licensing, TCMB guidance, and mandatory BTRANS and GIB reporting — all of which had to be reflected in the system architecture itself.

  • Build a payment institution infrastructure from scratch under BDDK licensing and TCMB regulations.
  • Embed BTRANS and GIB regulatory reporting directly into the architecture, not as an afterthought.
  • Design 15+ independent microservices that could be scaled, audited and handed over in isolation.
  • Ship robust Maker-Checker approval flows for high-risk financial operations.
  • Integrate virtual POS and 3D Secure flows with 8 banks in parallel, including UAT coordination.
  • Continue technical enhancements beyond the institutional equity transfer without service disruption.

Our Approach

We built ValensPara as a Kotlin + Spring Boot microservices platform designed around event-driven communication, durable workflows and regulatory traceability. Every decision — from service boundaries to Kafka topic retention classes — was made to keep the system simultaneously compliant, elastic and independently maintainable.

1
Pre-analysis

We modeled the regulatory perimeter first — BDDK, TCMB, BTRANS and GIB — and derived service boundaries, data retention rules and audit trails from that model.

2
Architecture

15+ microservices — API Gateway, payment orchestrator, merchant management, Keycloak identity, fraud, and bank-specific integration services — communicate via Apache Kafka with 13+ topics across Instant / Short / Medium / Long retention classes.

3
Durable workflows

Temporal orchestrates the payment flows that survive cell failures, guaranteeing consistency across retries, partial failures and long-running regulatory processes.

4
Compliance by design

BTRANS reporting, GIB integration and the immutable record principle (SFP) were embedded directly into the domain model, not layered on top.

5
Post-transfer delivery

After the shareholder transfer we continued delivering Multi-POS infrastructure, BIN API, instalment & commission APIs, Merchant API, Application Page (backend), Payment Gateway & Routing, Multipos payment flow, Merchant & Admin Panel UIs, user management and final hardening.

Technology Stack

Core technologies selected to deliver a secure, elastic, regulation-ready system.

Kotlin Spring Boot PostgreSQL (pg_partman) Apache Kafka Keycloak HashiCorp Vault MinIO Temporal Kubernetes (3 clusters) Terraform Ansible Helm / Helmfile GitLab CI/CD

Separation of duties across three Kubernetes clusters; GitOps-based application deployment; independent CI/CD pipelines per service. Infrastructure managed via repeatable Terraform + Ansible setups.

Key Results

ValensPara launched as a fully regulated payment platform, sustained a successful institutional equity transfer, and continued to grow under a structured engagement with Valensas as its technology partner.

  • A BDDK-licensed, TCMB-approved payment institution platform taken from zero to production.
  • Virtual POS integrations live with 5 banks (Albaraka, Akbank, Payten/Yapı Kredi, VakıfBank, Ziraat) and active integration work across 8.
  • 15+ independently deployable microservices running across 3 Kubernetes clusters under separation of duties.
  • BTRANS + GIB regulatory reporting delivered as native platform capabilities.
  • 90% equity transfer to an institutional investor successfully completed in May 2025.
  • Continued post-transfer engagement covering Multi-POS, BIN API, instalment & commission APIs, Merchant API, Application Page, Payment Gateway & Routing, Multipos flow, panel UIs, user management and final hardening.
  • 1-year SLA-backed maintenance plan with a 4-tier priority structure.

Team Ownership

ValensPara owns the full technology estate today — source code, infrastructure as code, documentation and operational runbooks — with the microservice boundaries designed to let different internal teams maintain different service domains independently.

Transferred to the client
  • Complete source code and microservice repositories, fully documented in Jira, Confluence and GitLab CI/CD.
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm/Helmfile) for reproducible deployments across 3 Kubernetes clusters.
  • Comprehensive technical and operational documentation in two dedicated Confluence spaces.
  • Regulatory-ready BTRANS and GIB reporting pipelines and a Keycloak-backed, Maker-Checker-protected operational control plane.
  • A 1-year SLA-backed maintenance framework (8x5, 4 priority levels) with defined response and resolution times.

Testimonials

“With Valensas, we built our payment platform from the ground up using a microservices architecture. Service communication was enabled through an event-driven structure and asynchronous queues, and multi-bank integrations along with full regulatory compliance were successfully implemented.”
